Friends & Supporters,
Thanks to you and our many hardworking volunteers, we achieved victory in May -- winning Sugar Land City Council At-Large Position 2 with over 69% of the vote!
This victory came from the efforts of many dedicated supporters who wanted our great City to continue in its positive path. As I said throughout the campaign, the concerns of all residents are my concerns as we strive to maintain Sugar Land's place among the greatest cities of Texas and our country. I am honored by the trust you have placed in me, and I will work hard to earn that trust every day I am on Council.
David and I cannot thank you and all our volunteers enough!
We look forward to working to sustain and enhance the great quality of life we appreciate in Sugar Land . Thank you again for being part of the Chaumette Team!
Sugar Land 2009-2010 Budget Approved
Sugar Land, TX – City Council approved on Sept. 15 a $220.3 million budget for fiscal year 2009-2010. Sugar Land’s fiscal year begins Oct. 1, 2009, and ends Sept. 30, 2010.
“This budget is based on conservative revenue estimates in light of the current economic climate, with zero growth in sales tax anticipated and property tax revenues based on the certified tax roll,”. “The City’s focus for 2010 is to maintain current service levels within available resources and serve an estimated population of 83,819 as of Jan. 2010, which includes the annexation of 3,600 River Park residents, effective Dec. 1, 2009.”
The budget maintains the existing tax rate of 30 cents, one of the lowest in the state and second lowest for cities with a population of more than 25,000.
The budget includes $86.7 million for 2010 capital improvement projects. The 2010 proposed CIP is the largest in City history, driven mainly by street projects. Major capital improvement projects include: the extension of University Boulevard South through Brazos Landing and the North Bridge, Lexington Boulevard and the reconstruction of Dulles Avenue; construction of Fire Station #7 in Telfair; First Colony Park, Imperial Park and Eldridge Park improvements; construction of hike and bike trails along Brooks Street; and traffic improvements to the U.S. 59 and Highway 6 intersection.
The budget includes funding to accommodate the annexation of River Park, including police officers in beat five, streetlight and right-of-way maintenance, park and trail maintenance, code enforcement, animal control, fire prevention and investigation, utility services and residential solid waste collection.
