Friends,

I have some exciting news!  After spending months meeting with several business and community leaders and other leaders within the Republican Party, I have decided to run for the Texas House of Representatives, HD 26.  I now ask you to join my family and close friends and support my election effort.

Specifically, I want to (1) invite you to our many events and meet and greets, (2) ask your friends and neighbors to get involved on our team, and (3) allow me to use your name as a supporter.

We all know that our core Republican principles unite this community and have been an integral part of our growth and success over the last twenty years.  Our representatives in Austin must be leaders as we advance those principles and make our community (and our state) a better place for all citizens.  Like you, I want accountable, conservative and strong leadership for the citizens of District 26.  So why should you support me?

For starters, I am not new to Republican causes.  In fact, I have been active for many years.  I am a former Republican precinct chair, have served on several Republican Boards including as Candidates Committee Chair for young conservatives-R Club and as Vice President of the Fort Bend Republican Women’s PAC.  I have worked on several campaigns including those of Gov. Rick Perry, Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, former Congressman Jack Fields and former Councilmember Michael Berry and many judicial races for Republican candidates, just to name a few.  Through this work, I  have demonstrated my belief in the fundamental conservative and Republican principles that unite us as a community and as a party.  It is those principles that will guide my work as your next State Representative for District 26.

Beyond that, I hope it’s obvious that I love this community and I am absolutely committed to serving it.  I came to the continental United States at the age of 7 from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.  Shortly after graduating from the University of Houston, I met my husband David, who attended Dulles and Clements High Schools.  We have lived in District 26 for more than 16 years.  Our two sons attend school, participate in Boy Scouts and play baseball, football and basketball in District 26.  As you know, I have served on Sugar Land's City Council for two terms and I am currently Mayor Pro Tem for Sugar Land.  I have also represented Fort Bend, Harris and surrounding counties as a gubernatorial (Perry) appointee to the Brazos River Authority.  In those roles, I have been helping with our legislative and policy issues affecting our District for some time.  District 26 is our home, and I feel a deep desire and responsibility to help make this District the best place for my family, and yours, to live.

Furthermore,  I understand how government works.  Even before I became an elected official, my career in planning focused on key policy issues like transportation, infrastructure, development and air quality.  I also served as Vice President at the Greater Houston Partnership.  In particular, policy decisions affecting water are critically important in our area and my knowledge (and experience on the Brazos River Authority) will be instrumental in dealing with statewide policy from a conservative perspective.

Another area important to me is education which is crucial to our future.  My husband is a product of FBISD, our boys are products of FBISD and I have been actively involved in educational policy from serving as a Trustee for the Chinquapin School, to serving on the Campus Based Leadership Teams for my sons’ schools and serving on both boys’ PTA Boards.

In fact, I have dealt with the issues facing our district from many different angles.  For more than a decade, I have had my own policy consulting company, where I help companies navigate the challenges of the public policy process.  Armed with my master’s degree in city planning, I have taught urban politics, public administration and public policy at the University of Houston for several years.  And as Sugar Land’s Mayor Pro-Tem, I oversee the city's policies, serve as its legislative body and approve the budget.

I have also had the privilege of serving on many wonderful boards throughout our community, including: chair of the Fort Bend Chamber’s infrastructure division, a county appointee on Fort Bend’s Mobility Planning committee, President of the Fort Bend YMCA, President of the Fort Bend Professional Women’s Group, and President of the Fort Bend Boys Choir.  In addition, I have been active with Texas Lyceum, Fort Bend Education Foundation, Rotary International, The Exchange Club of Sugar Land, Fort Bend Lawyer’s Care,Texas Dragon Boat Association, Parks Youth Ranch, Inc., Commonwealth Elementary PTA, and Fort Settlement Middle School PTO, including chairing several committees or task forces for each of these groups.

In short, I am the right candidate at the right time.  I am excited about the campaign ahead, and I hope you are too.  But, to succeed, I need your help.  I look forward to visiting with you on policy and legislative matters and other issues of interest.  Please do not hesitate to contact me at 281.565.0390 or at Jacquie@JacquieChaumette.org
